Briarwood Soul Shrine

*Blizzard WoW Fan Art*

This won Honorable Mention for the 3D Environment category at the 2020 Academy of Art Spring Show.

This is my submission for this year's Blizzard Student Art Contest.

This originally started out as a school environment project but I re-modeled and re-textured nearly all of it during winter break. I have always loved the Drust aesthetic and I could not resist creating a scene and narrative that could fit into that race and the Drustvar zone. Most of the model was made in Maya with the large rocks and rune stones being sculpted in ZBrush and then retopologized in Maya. Textures were all hand-painted in Photoshop and 3D Coat with diffuse textures only.

Deep in the woods of Drustvar lies the ancient Briarwood Soul Shrine. It was here that Sister Noella Briarwood summoned the lost souls of the Drust to create the Briarwood army. The rune stones can still be seen floating and dimly glowing, powered by the remaining death magic lurking in the bones from past life sacrifices. They lie in wait, ready to summon the souls of the Drust once more, should she return.
